Cumberland – Arthur G. Johnson, 85, of Mendon Road died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the home of his son, Steven, in Richmond surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dorothy (Cooper) Potter and the late E. Louise (Cooke) Johnson. Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Arthur and Florine M. (Wood) Johnson, he had lived in Cumberland for the past 64 years. Mr. Johnson was a maintenance man for 40 years in the chemical industry for Olin Hunt in Saylesville for 13 years, Synthron in Ashton for 17 ½ years and Allied Chemical for 10 ½ years before retiring. A 60-year Mason, he was a life member of the former Barney Merry Lodge #29, F. & A.M., Pawtucket and an honorary member of Mount Moriah Lodge #8, F. & A.M., Lincoln where he served as the chaplain for the past 26 years. He was a member of Gaspee Order #99, Swords of Bunker Hill. A World War II Navy Seabee veteran, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Lincoln and a member of the former Berkeley Methodist Church, Cumberland where he served as the Chairman of the Board and the Building Committee. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Jones and her husband, Robert of New Hartford, CT and Laurie L. Suhre and her husband, Douglas of Farmington, CT; two sons, Arthur G. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis of Lancaster, MA and Steven A. Johnson and his wife, Joyce of Richmond; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Potter of Woonsocket; one stepson, Raymond W. Potter, Jr. and his wife, Dagny of Sharon, CT; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Johnson-Sherman and her husband, Steven of North Attleboro, MA; one sister, Mabel Dunn of Providence; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late William H. Johnson and the brother of the late Wilbur and Harold Johnson. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 at 7:30 P.M. at the BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. His funeral will be held MONDAY, JANUARY 25 at 10 A.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 55 Woodland Street, Lincoln. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln SUNDAY 4-8 P.M.
