Baker, Gloria M. of Hope, RI died Monday at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence after a brief illness. She was born March 14th 1925 in Burlington, VT the daughter of the late Mansfield W. and Irene (Fontaine) Saltus.

She moved to Rhode Island as a young child from Vermont. She married Jack R. Baker in 1948. Starting as a young woman Gloria had many interest and hobbies until her death. One of her early accomplishments was flying with her husband and she eventually obtained her own pilot's license. She was one of a few women in the 40's that had a civilian pilot's license in RI. An avid golfer she obtained a very respectable
handicap. Her love of antiques steer her into mastering the art of antique surface refinishing and gold leafing. She also enjoyed sewing becoming a master seamstress. She was a homemaker for many years and later on in life became an inspector for Anchor Glass Container Corporation. Gloria was not an idle person and for years after retirement and up to her death she was a marketing demonstrator for various area retail stores. She enjoyed tending her own gardens and cooking. Gloria loved the Rhode Island coastline and one of her favorite pastimes was to pull over to any suitable beach and quahog with her sons. She was member of Beaucant Pawtucket Assembly #217. In her earlier years she was member of Wannamoisett and Kirkbrae Country Clubs.

Gloria was predeceased by her husband and her son Jack R. Baker, Jr. She leaves two sons Gary M. Baker and his wife Maggie and Ronald W. Baker and his wife Kim all of Hope, RI. Five grandchildren, Rachel Richard of Nevada, Jaclyn Baker of MA., Shelby Baker of Hope RI Nicole Zahuranec of Horsehead, NY and Janelle Adams of Hope, RI. She also leaves two great grandchildren Jace Howlett of MA and Ava Zahuranec of Horsehead, NY many family members in Canada and her cat Baggy.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10am in Trinity Episcopal Church 251 Danielson Pike North Scituate. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited and may call FRIDAY 5-8pm at BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL 160 River Rd. Lincoln. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory to Home & Hospice Care of RI 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904-9826 would be appreciated.
