Betty was a very intelligent, curious, loving, energetic person. She enjoyed stimulating her mind and heart in a variety of ways. In her relationships with her family, her many friends, and her colleagues. In her career as a dental hygienist, which lasted over 50 years! In her joy in sailing and sculling with her husband Joe, and their friends. In her multifaceted church work; which continued into her 80’s! In her pleasure in adult education classes; into her late 80’s! And, in her swimming at the YWCA; also into her late 80’s
On the lighter side, Betty was a Talker! ( I expect this is not a surprise to any of you!) She wanted to really share her pleasures and ideas with everyone she knew. Her much appreciated sense of humor brightened many hearts.
Betty was both a contributor and a leader. In her family; Joe, Sharon and Derek, and many offspring. Last November she was blessed with her second great-great granddaughter, Mya! In her many professional and leisure activities. In this church. When I called the church last month to let them know Betty was in the hospital I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of concern and love.
Betty generously contributed her time, her talents, her advice, and, I presume, financial support to anyone who requested it (and sometimes, even when they didn’t!)
Betty was particularly thoughtful to her family and close friends. In my case, whenever I visited she always stocked up on Moxie (love it or hate it!) a favorite drink of mine available only in New England. Until she became too frail, she made my favorite boyhood junk food, German Potato Pancakes, available to me only at 78 Jenks St. Betty was just as thoughtful toward my children. When our mother passed away she set aside for my daughter, Jeanne, a handsome hope chest designed and built by our father, and my mother’s fine china. She gave to our son, Keith, a fascinating, really old, scrapbook assembled by our grandfather, George Dunsmore. Our kids also knew that on their wedding anniversaries a loving card from Aunt Betty would appear in the mail, every year without fail!
Most of all, I’ll remember Betty for her unquenchable, ebullient spirit, which radiated outward to encompass her family, her many friends, and even people she hardly knew! I’ll savor that memory for all of my remaining years.
George Ramig, Betty’s younger brother.

When George introduced me to Betty, months before we married, it was as if we had been sisters for a long time. She took me to her heart, was always ready to greet me lovingly and share her life with me. She was a caring sister to George and to me and a wonderful aunt to our children. We will never forget her inspiring presence and her many good deeds within the family and outside of it as well. Virginia ("Ginny") Ramig, sister-in-law

To echo Edna Kelly's sentiments, 'Betty-O' was a breath of fresh air at each hospice bereavement support group meeting which she graced with her presence. Despite her own grief when her beloved husband passed away, our Betty always had a smile, a kind word, a hug, or a story told in her own loveable and loquacious way.
I could tell countless stories of how Betty befriended and chatted with others in person or on the phone, picked up members who didn't always have transportation, and pitched right in with cooking, clean-up or whatever was needed at group meetings. She always was ready to help a friend in need. Her energy was only surpassed by her sense of compassion.
Betty was a multi-faceted lady. She could enter a room adorned in an elegant hat - every inch a graceful and distinguished lady. And almost in the blink of an eye she could show up at a Halloween party dressed and talking like a salty old pirate! She was a spunky, feisty, intelligent woman - a real force to be reckoned with! She made us all laugh and she made us all cry - and we all loved her and always will. Our lives are better having been touched by such a remarkable and inspiring lady. We have all been truly blessed to have known her.
My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. Thanks so much for sharing her with us all. Her spirit will live on in all the wonderful memories she left in the hearts of all who knew her.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth 'Betty' Nunes Former Member & Facilitator Hospice Bereavement Support Group

Betty was a wonderful, welcoming person who would do anything to make you happier, more comfortable and more interested in life. She took me under her wing when I was a new hygienist, made sure I met everyone and maintained her friendship over the years. I will miss her very much.

Betty or as she was known in our support group "The Hat Lady" was like a breath of fresh air. She would come bouncing in wearing the most outlanding hat bringing smiles and laughter to all. We were all in the grieving phase so we looked forward to her grand entrance. She touched all of our lives and will long be remembered.

Gram, I will always hold dear to my heart that 20 years ago you answered the phone and immediately knew it was me, after almost 13 years of seperation. Thank you for always keeping us in your heart. Especially thank you for your generosity, hospitality, and compassion. Although we didn't spend much time together because of our distance the time we did spend was special. I am truly grateful that God chose you to be my grandmother and now he chooses you to be His angel. Rest in Love and Peace your granddaughter, Karen
